I read at least once a year. This is one of the best books around, but a very thin book. a) The style of writing is interesting, much more than the style of modern authors. He thinks the reason for the open air, on philosophy, not only the transmission and "how" is. b) Whenever I read, I have a new idea to reduce my pack weight. I will pack today with a backpack weighing about 20-25 pounds (including food and water). This is largely due Nessmuk (and Horace Kephart). Sears) offer a moderately entertaining read. He wrote for and was an active participant in the movement "back to nature" during the Victorian period. He writes about the glory and romance of camping, woodworking, forestry, travel and fly fishing with minimalist techniques. The information on the fire reflector capabilities, axes, fishing with worms / larvae is good, Lore basis that everyone needs to learn, but it lacks the book detail on many other fundamental aspects of woodworking and camping type North Woods and outdoor survival, particularly the collection and storage of food and winter of life. If the reader follows the recommendations of the author during a long trip to the northern forest or boreal forest, they would probably put more in deep trouble. More info needed, represented here by Nessmuk if plans own adventure 10 days the crossing of a large piece of wood. In short, yes, a picturesque and pleasant to read, but if you want less romanticized / glorification and closer, see "Camp Trail and Methods" by E. Kreps , and "Northern Bushcraft" by Mors Kochanski. (Note: This review written by an expert on primitive survival and former trapper. I love this book two stars to one point for safety was on. Some people are dead or almost dead in the open by the possibilities of romantic / mystical knowledge and looking at options for realists - the practitioner. I was invited back to plague the book by one of the brakes and the mosquitoes, whereas Nessmuk a repellent that really seemed to be a tonic for the skin. Three parts of pine tar, two parts of castor oil, and part of pennyroyal oil until tender. Rub. It works like a charm. In the context may see it and then rubbed Nessmuk not for six weeks or wash it, but real men in real forest. If you have not met a father and two little Indians (Ernest Thomas Seton) and books Nessmuk your son /> <br you just are not really willing to move in the forest. It is also fun to read. Its encouraging to me that "Nessmuk" get> 5,000 hits on Google.
